1983 Alden Malabar tribute
For those aficionados of classic sailing yachts the name John Alden is no stranger, and his Malabar sloops are renowned for their enduring style and performance.
The Malabar XV (Design number 0675) Is a tribute to the Famous Yawl, and has has a unique story. Originally build in 1938 of teak, mahogany, over oak frames, in 1984-1986 the boat was transformed into a modern classic by stripping her hull of its brass portholes, fittings, and planking then using her frame as a mold was hand layered with sold fiberglass. The original brass refitted, new aluminum mast and stainless streel rigging, rebuilt Perkins 4-108 diesel, and rewire to modern standards. Even the original hull planking was reused to dress out the interior. She's now fitted with Iso Therm 12v refrigeration, solar [panels, 1000 watt inverter, Hydro-vane self steering, tiller auto pilot, and sailing dinghy. Over $50K spent on upgrades and restoration.
If you want a true classic yacht without the constant maintenance of the wood hull, then this is the boat for you.
